The capacity crowd were excited, eager to renew acquaintance with "Bob" and gave him a warm round of applause when he strolled onto the stage at the Regal Theatre.
Clad in a low key ensemble of white trousers and tee shirt, quite a change from his usual flamboyant multi-coloured ensembles, Bob was still fully made up and wearing his trademark wig of platinum curls.
As he proceeded to work the room Bob (aka Mark Trevorrow) set a frenetic pace combining chatter, songs and nifty dance moves. He also has a charming line in audience engagement. He can be risque but unlike many comedians is never nasty or cruel.
Tongue firmly in cheek, he told us how lovely it was to be back in Perth – all the familiar everyday "TV host" patter but delivered with a wonderful sense of irony. That is Trevorrow's real talent – he lets the audience in on the joke and in doing so flatters them completely! Could he be serious? Of course, He's such great guy!
He also displays an excellent singing voice which he used to lead an engaged crowd in a number of "oldies but goodies". Australian audiences are noted for their reticence to join in song, however Trevorrow manages to woo almost all of the patrons to sing along. The swelling song of a full house adds immeasurably to crowd pleasure. That Aussie feeling that we are all being daggy (foolish) but going along with the show was fully obvious and appreciated.
As always, a consummate performer who never disappoints. It is a shame (for us Aussies) he will soon depart to the USA to live and perform. We have had the best of his formative years in character.
Bon Voyage Bob. It's been a blast!
